Your part in this venture

As a wife and mom, I want to help my family experience the fullness of living as Jesus teaches us to live, and I want to teach my kids to see and embrace God's best in their family history and in their daily lives.

We have spent years in conversation and research regarding the Biblical appointed times or festivals. They are sometimes called Jewish holidays because the Jewish community continues to keep these holidays. We have found them to be rich in purpose, loaded with meaning, and wonderfully fun. My intention is to introduce you to the Biblically stated purpose, historical and cultural meanings, and potential fun these days can hold for you. I want to do that in a way that causes you to feel excited and equipped, rather than burdened or overwhelmed.

As a teacher and mom, I know time is short, and preparation must be simple.

This next year, we will reflect together on the approaching holiday/appointed time/Biblical feast/festival/season. In three simple steps...

First: In the written blog and video blog, I will offer up some ideas we have collected along the way from friends, books, and websites.   I will be sure to name helpful resources, too.

I am grateful that others have gone before us and there are brilliant ideas already out there. I am counting on it.  It is how we know most of what we know about pursuing God and his brilliant story.

My hope is that you will at least peruse the Biblical, historical, and cultural significance of the day/festival/season. It would be great to hear back from you, namely what you found helpful and what resources you found elsewhere. This venture is only worthwhile as a community of sharing among people seeking to know God intimately and live as He calls us to live.

Then: I will pass along some practical, hands-on activities, both simple and more grand-scale, that others have found helpful to more fully appreciate the day/festival/season and its Creator. These ideas will be marked by “HOI” for “hands-on idea.” The internet is a deep and wide resource for ideas on holiday traditions. When you come across something interesting, please share-- the good, the great, and maybe even the really odd! We are especially interested in how to make these times fun, purposeful, and memorable for kids, marriage, and communities of single people.

Finally: It would be an enormous blessing to hear what you put into practice, how your family/community/roommate/children experienced the day/festival/season and its related activities, and other relevant reflections on these appointed times. “Add a comment” is a hot button at the bottom of every blog. Please share comments about what you read and resources you find that the rest of us could benefit from. Thank you in advance!
